        Setup Guide for SciNet Netmail <-> Email UUCP Gate - 30/07/19 

SciNet now has a DNS distributed nodeist. What is a DNS distributed nodelist
you ask? Well, according to the Fidonet Technical Standards Committee (FTSC)
document FTSC-5004; it is a method of distributing a FTN style nodelist
through DNS.

So every node in SciNet will have a CNAME entry in the scinet-ftn.org domain
that points back to the hostname in the SciNet nodelist. The format is as
follows:

fF.nN.z77.scinet-ftn.org

where the fields refer to...

F   - Node Number

N   - Net Number

So for example, the Diskshop is 77:1/100 so it would translate to
f100.n1.z77.scinet-ftn.org and Nocturnal is 77:3/100 and it would translate
to f100.n3.z77.scinet-ftn.org

If you ping any of the FQDN's it will translate to your binkp entry in the
nodelist.

If your telnet or binkp ports are on non-standard ports, then a SRV record is
added to the root domain to reflect that.

For example, Mystic Dreams currently accepts binkp traffic on port 24555 so
it would have a SRV record of _binkp._tcp.f108.n1.z77 24555 and The Rock BBS
III currently accepts telnet connections on port 10023 so it's SRV record
would be _telnet._tcp.f104.n1.z77 10023.

Why all of this? Well, modern binkp mailers will use DNS lookup when sending
mail to a node that they don't have an entry for, so you can crash netmail
each other if you wish. You will have to add an alias for the SciNet domain
to point to scinet-ftn.org

We also offer a UUCP gate that allows you to send emails via netmail
and receive email via netmail. An email to 
Frank.Linhares@f100.n1.z77.scinet-ftn.org would automatically be send via
netmail to Frank Linhares@77:1/100.

You may also email anyone via netmail. Address a netmail message to any email
address and send it to the gate at 77:77/5. The uucp gate will then send the
email out for you. If you are using older bbs software with a limited amount
of characters in the To: line, then address the netmail to UUCP@77:77/5 and 
make sure the first line of the message body contains To: email@domain.com

You can add multiple people to to the email by adding additional To: lines to
the top of the message body. CC: also works if you wish to carbon copy
someone.

Vanity subdomains are also available in the format of bbsname.scinet-ftn.org.

Nodes who currently have a vanity subdomain are identified in the scinet
nodelist with the flag U,subdomain.scinet-ftn.org
