 Marine Layer over Lisbon

   December 09, 2020

    Capture

   Photographer: Nuno Lopes
   Summary Authors: Nuno Lopes

This photo, captured just after sunset, shows a marine layer
creeping over the Tagus River along the Atlantic coast of Portugal,
from Barreiro City to Lisbon. A marine layer often forms when there’s
considerable temperature contrast between the sea and lower atmosphere.
In late summer, the water temperature off the coast of Portugal is
cooler than the air above it. When westerly winds move cooler air
ashore, a fog layer may develop, typically no more than a few hundred
feet in thickness. Photo taken on September 15, 2020.

Photo Details: Camera: Canon EOS 550D; Software: Adobe Photoshop
Lightroom 5.7.1 (Windows); Exposure Time: 0.0025s (1/400); Aperture:
