The Earth Science Picture of the Day (EPOD) highlights the diverse processes
and phenomena which shape our planet and our lives. EPOD will collect and
archive photos, imagery, graphics, and artwork with short explanatory
captions and links exemplifying features within the Earth system. The
community is invited to contribute digital imagery, short captions and
relevant links.

   Shown above is an aerial view of  Lake Bracciano (Italy), in the
   foreground, the  Tyrrhenian Sea, the islands of the  Tuscan
   archipelago, and lastly  Corsica island, which lies on the horizon
   line. The camera is facing  the Sun. Note the  sunglint on all of
   the water surfaces. This optical phenomenon results when sunlight is
   reflected off of a body of water at the same angle that the camera is
   observing. Though glinting is generally considered to be detrimental to
    remote sensing, in some cases it actually enhances details that
   can’t be detected otherwise, the roughness of the water surface, for
