Just to announce that there's one more UTF-8 compatible editor now: https://github.com/jegornet/amberedit working with Squish and JAM message bases.

macOS and Linux only, for now.

Thanks for the announcement. Since there's no mention of it whatsoever, maybe I can help you make it easier to compile on Archlinux:

ncursesw is part of the ncurses package in Arch.

Ubuntu; `brew install tl-expected` on macOS, where it also wants
-DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH=$(brew --prefix tl-expected).

Even with the package 'tl-expected' installed, I get this error. Most likely it's not looking in the right place, because Arch probably doesn't have it where you think it is. ;)

So did you finally manage to build it? I believe "AMBEREDIT_NCURSESW_SUBDIR - Failed" isn't a blocker on Arch Linux, it should work after `sudo pacman -S tl-expected doctest`

I'll update the build instructions though. :-)

Something is very familiar/comfortable about this. :)

I don't blame you for going this route, though. Even AI gets confused and starts spinning in circles trying to change things and/or fix issues with Golded's code.

Working here so far! Can't wait to see where this goes.

FYI, I keep hitting home and end to move around when editing what I've written, and it treats it the same as hitting ESC.

I did, and I like it so far. I can mess around with my color pallete as time permits. I wanted to make sure everything was configured as thoroughly as possible, but it was nice to be able to bring over a lot of my golded config when it came to groups and whatnot.

Using your instructions in INSTALL.md, I built without doctest and prefixed a location in my home directory.

I'll update the build instructions though. :-)

So far, so good. Would you like bugs and/or feature requests as issues on github?

Funny thing is I used to be pretty sceptical about vibe-coding - now here I am. ;-)

Sounds like a classic terminal emulator issue - the terminal sends one escape-sequence for Home/End, the app expects another. Which terminal app do you use? And what's does `echo $TERM` output? Is it local or over ssh?

At first I wanted to do the color themes in TrueColor to make it look cooler, but it's tricky to detect whether the terminal actually supports it. For example, iTerm2 sets COLORTERM=truecolor, but that doesn't get passed through to an ssh session by default - only if you set it up manually. So I've shelved this idea for now.

BTW, you might wanna try `theme themes/16_colors.cfg` if you prefer to customize the color palette in your terminal app.
